Solar and lunar eclipses in November 2012

November 2012 is a powerful eclipse month which features a solar eclipse mid-month and ends with a lunar eclipse on 28th November.
I found this image in the National Geograpic. It was taken in China's Gansu Province in 2008
This is a hugely exciting month, sparking a lot of changes in all our lives.

The solar eclipse – essentially a new Moon – happens on 13th November at about 10pm GMT just at the end of Libra conjuncting the North node in Scorpio. New moons are always new beginnings and their impact can already be felt around four weeks or so before the exact date. However, during a solar eclipse, the Moon is hidden which means that whatever new beginnings are kick-started around this time, we can’t see them immediately. Their impact on our lives is yet unknown and although you might get the feeling that something is shifting, issues, challenges, opportunities and changes will become a lot clearer two weeks later around the lunar eclipse – or full Moon. At this time, the Moon is at its strongest and brightest so whatever began around the solar eclipse, literally comes to light now.

Dietrech Pessin in her book, Lunar Shadows III, describes how a solar eclipse “will push matters to the forefront for immediate attention....

“...(it’s) an extremely busy time filled with stress and demands...leaving a period of unknowns to be revealed later.”

Often, when we look back at the major events in our lives, changes, major progress and developments or entirely beginnings were kick-started around the solar eclipse that had profound effects for the years that followed. The eclipse is happening in Libra and this is a time for more balance, fairness, diplomacy, cooperation, compromise and at the same time, we need to realise what is out of balance in area in our lives touched by the eclipse. In Libra, this can often concern relationships – whether personal or business partnerships. With Saturn in the mix this time, it’s an ideal time to pass balanced judgements, fair punishments and establish solid and lasting relationships. The actual eclipse chart has Cancer on the Ascendant with the eclipse taking place in the 4th house! Essentially, the focus – and pressure - seems to be on family relationships and our own emotional relationship with ourselves. There may also be a powerful attraction to someone new that will join some of us on our path. Alternatively, for some of us, there may be big questions marks over a property situation which may come to a head or a swift ending followed by a new beginning.

Looking at Vedic astrology, this solar eclipse is in the nakshatra of Vishakha, ruled by Jupiter. Jupiter gives strength, faith and optimism while Vishakha Moons are said to reap the fruits of their labour eventually but only after some time and some effort. With Saturn in the same sign as the eclipse, delays may well occur and some effort and discipline is required to reap the benefits.

For the six months after the eclipse, until the lunar eclipse occurs in the opposite sign of Aries, the focus will be on all of these areas while there will be further clues and progress when the North node eventually passes the eclipse point on 15th January. Another piece in the puzzle is then added to each new, evolving life story around the lunar eclipse which takes place in May 2013. I will talk more about the North node shifting signs next month before it moves into Libra for 18 months in mid-January 2013.

November is rounded off with the lunar eclipse in Taurus. Lunar eclipses are personal, so they have a profound effect on our emotions and affairs of the heart. Lunar eclipses have a deep impact on our one-to-one relationships. It is a sensitive time and if the solar eclipse is about powerful beginnings, the lunar eclipse brings powerful endings. The Moon is at its brightest during the lunar eclipse (or full moon) so everything is out in the open, the cards are on the table and we are ready or sometimes forced to make a decision about what comes next. Although we are still in the middle of the Uranus / Pluto square and Venus is conjunct Saturn around this time, this lunar eclipse is accompanied by expansive Jupiter in Taurus which should take the edge of the harsh square. Even if people suddenly leave our lives while others enter (to stick around for many years to come!), this lunar eclipse should help us transform our lives in a solid, practical, patient, efficient, loyal and committed way. Do look forward to it!
